GRADIENT STUDIES

Tests and Trials of Translucent Color

I painted these while planning my mural, Transparent #2. I had an idea of how I wanted to paint it, and these studies helped me figure out the process.

I wanted to work with translucent paint, layering colors so that secondary colors would appear where they overlapped.

With these studies, I worked out the color combinations, how they would be layered, and the opacity of each layer.

In the video above, I move between the studies and the mural itself, showing how the experiments grew into the final piece.
